Second Cup Cafe: Parachute
A hot new group to keep your eye on this summer is Virginia's pop rockers, "Parachute."
Their catchy single, "She is Love," is quickly moving up the charts and their album, "Losing Sleep," debuted at No. 1 on iTunes.
Making their national television debut, Parachute performed "She is Love," and "Under Control" on the The Early Show Saturday Edition's "Second Cup Cafe."
"She is Love," and "Under Control" have crossed over commercially, as well -- they are currently featured in nNational TV ads for Nivea.
The young Charlottesville-area band's members have been friends since high school. It's made up of Will Anderson, Johnny Stubblefield, Alex Hargrave, Nate McFarland and Kit French.
Frontman Will Anderson, who wrote all the songs on the album, managed to whip up, "She is Love" in just ten minutes. Although it took a short time to write, it carried a lot of their fan base.
The song became a hit with the ladies when Anderson was in college. He used it to woo sorority girls into attending their concerts -- and it worked!
Will says his single, "Under Control" was written to try to gain the attention of a college crush, who is still unaware that it was written about her.
Parachute signed a recording contract with Mercury Records as juniors in college. Their label urged them to finish their college degree, so all five band members hit the books during the week and recorded their album on the weekend.
According to the band's official bio, their influences range from Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Paul Simon and Journey to newer artists such as U2, Coldplay, Weezer, Ben Folds, Maroon 5, John Mayer, Jay-Z, Kanye West, The Fray, and The Arcade Fire.
"Losing Sleep," was released on May 19, and hit No. 40 on Billboard's Top 200. Currently, the album is No. 2 on iTunes Top Ten Albums.
